The 8th East Asia Squash Tournament was kicked-off in Tianjin on July 12, 2013. Six teams, i.e., China, Chinese Taipei, China Hong Kong, China Macau, Japan and Korea participated in the competition.

East Asia Squash Tournament was traditionally held every year. The 8th Tournament is made up of Men’s team competition and Women’s team competition.

Each match is played by 3 players versus 3 players. The winner wins the best three out five 11-point games.

It’s learned that the Squash is added into the 6th East Asian Games to meet the request of Hong Kong. Wang Weiheng, the chief coach of Hong Kong team said “Hong Kong team is relatively powerful in Squash. Our aim is to promote this sport game. Squash is comparatively unpopular in mainland. If it becomes more popular in mainland, it will surely be played well.”

Regarding the interchange of mainland and Hong Kong on Squash, Wang said “As the communication between mainland and Hong Kong becomes more frequently, lots of players from mainland come to Hong Kong and exchange experiences. It is good for the progress of mainland Squash.”

Wang speaks high of the venue infrastructure and reception work, “the venue is a brand-new, specialized and world-class one. The reception is wonderful. The staffs are nice and professional. We are very satisfied and expecting the upcoming East Asian Games.”

Xie Delong, Deputy Director of Tianjin Sports Bureau and Deputy Director of the 6th EAGOC Execution Bureau speaks during the interview that the Tournament is held in the EAG standard. The hotels of this Tournament are those servicing in East Asia Games. So are the cars and volunteers. Almost everything are following EAG standard.

The East Asia Squash Tournament is scheduled to be wrapped up on July 14, 2013.
