The other day, the journalist came to Tianjin Fucun Sports Training Base and interviewed Wu Weifeng, the head coach of Tianjin’s Judo team. Speaking of the East Asian Games to be held in Tianjin in October, Wu expressed her hope that some athletes of Tianjin’s team can compete on behalf of the country and win gold and silver medals in presence of our fellow people of Tianjin.
Judo has a high level of development in East Asia. China and Japan have many times won gold medals in this sport. Athletes from both countries are directly competing with each other at various levels, especially women big kilo events, and Tianjin’s famous athletes Tong Wen and Qin Qian have their competitors from Japan.

Therefore, though the scale of the East Asian Games is smaller than the Olympic Games, competition in the sport of Judo is still very fierce. Wu Weifeng, always seeing Tianjin as her second hometown, wishes some local athletes can compete in Tianjin. She told the journalist: “Though the General Administration of Sport hasn’t decided which athletes to participate in the East Asian Games on behalf of China, we will definitely get ready any time; after all, the game will be held in Tianjin this time, so I hope our athletes can perform well in the presence of our fellow people.”
